Green awards 2011

On a rather murky Monday morning recently, 14th
November, three representatives of the Penkside Project caught the train to London, on their way to
the Green Apple Awards Ceremony at the House of Commons. The ceremony took place
on the Pavillion Terrace, overlooking the Thames, with  a view of the London Eye – just!

Councillor Frank Finlay, Tracy Redpath from Stafford Borough Council
and Ammie Ratcliffe were very proud indeed to be presented with the Gold Award in
the Community Project category.

Penkside, along with the ‘Derrington – Way Ahead’ project
was one of two local projects that scooped a Gold, seeing off around 500 rivals
across the UK to take top spot in their categories.

In the Penkside area, with the help of an ever growing band
of Community Champions, we have undertaken several projects to help people and
the environment. These have included nearly 100 home energy visits, plus energy
efficiency work in Silkmore Primary School, Stafford Sports
College, Jock’s Café and
St Peter’s Church. We have also focussed on supporting cycling, as you can see
in the ‘Bike It!’ article.
